We all know the scene: Belle has refused to sup with Beast after she gives up her freedom in trade for her sickly father's, to be a prisoner in his castle. Venturing in to the kitchen late that night, feeling the void from missing dinner, Belle is treated to a musical number by the castle's staff in the hopes of making her feel more welcome.
That's how we're introduced to the 'grey stuff.' Thrusting a platter of petit fours & other small morsels at Belle for her consideration, Lumière sings "try the grey stuff, it's delicious!/ Don't believe me? Ask the dishes!"
Since I was a little girl, I've always wanted to try the grey stuff.
What is the grey stuff? Where does it come from? How is it made?
My curiosity overfloweth.
Incidentally, Disney parks has a quick service restaurant called Be Our Guest that serves up a dish of grey stuff, but, that does my need for instant gratification no good, so, what follows is my spin on the grey stuff.
There are a lot of recipes online for the grey stuff, and each has their individual signature, but most all agree on one thing: Oreos. Your grey stuff needs Oreos.
10-15 Oreos (I used Oreo Thins)
1 container Coconut Whip Cream
1 1/2 cups Coconut Milk
1 package Oreo Cream Instant Pudding
Other toppings - optional
Mix Oreo Cream instant pudding with coconut milk then refrigerate for 10 minutes.
Blend Oreos to crumbs in a food processor, then mix them in to the pudding. Fold in the coconut whip cream and refrigerate for an hour.
Serve topped with sprinkles and other toppings of your choice. I opted for fresh berries.
