Crystal Charging: Celebrating New Moon in Libra
I’m no Carli, so this isn’t a New Moon Magic edition - but you should totally go back and check those out, too - this is me sharing my New Moon ritual for charging crystals. Before I share my practice, let’s cover some bases:
What Is Crystal Charging?
Crystals, stones and gems have long been used for healing and energy work. When you use crystals in this manner, the energy inside them can become drained, leaving room for negative, or stagnant energies to enter them. Cleansing and charging will help restore and re-energize your crystals.
How Do You Charge a Crystal?
Depending on the kind of crystal or stone, you can charge them in a myriad of ways, predominately, using sunlight or moonlight to charge them.
What’s the Difference Between Cleansing and Charging?
There’s no universal rule or approach here because so much depends on the type of crystal or stone you are working with, but, in general, cleansing your crystals is like smudging your room or burning Palo Santo - you are clearing negative energies. When you charge your crystals, you are giving them a boost of energy, pulling from a natural source.
Now that we’re on the same page here, let’s talk New Moon:
New Moons are a particularly good time to charge your crystals because the New Moon represents new beginnings, a time to reset goals, renew desires, and set new intentions. The New Moon will charge your crystals up with the best kind of positive vibes, great for manifestations. The New Moon in Libra heightens the potential for re-committing to personal goals; it’s a time to work on balance: balance in our lives and in our relationships.
First, I cleanse my crystals by spritzing them with charged or blessed water, or, if some of my crystals don’t like water, I’ll clear them using smoke from a smudge stick. Then, I set them outside in the Earth of my garden, directly under the moonlight. I light candles chosen for their own potent properties, I evoke the energy of the Earth (tri-Earth sign over here, Taurus > Virgo > Virgo) and say a small prayer that they might be filled with light and radiance and help me on my path. I leave them outside to charge overnight, and gather them in the early morning before sunlight reaches them. My crystals are cleansed and all charged up!
Some notes on crystals & charging
As I mentioned above, not all crystals like water, so be careful on how you cleanse. Here are just a few crystals that prefer smoke or other forms of cleansing:
My crystals aren’t super sensitive to sunlight, but, I’m careful (maybe overly careful) because some crystals really don’t like sunlight, and you can bleach them out. This can occur with moonlight as well.

Happy New Moon!
